World’s Largest Solar Thermal Plant is Live and It’s Beautiful

World’s largest solar thermal power plant is now live in California and producing clean energy, free from carbon emissions.

300,000 computerized mirrors reflect sunlight to the top of 460-foot towers, turning water into steam that powers the turbines. This enormous power plant in Ivanpah, CA is a joint venture of NRG Energy, Google and BrightSource Energy.

According to the press release, the plant has a peak capacity to generate 392 megawatts of electricity which is enough to provide for 140,000 homes in California while reducing 400,000 metric tons of CO2 emission annually which is equal to taking 72 thousand vehicles off the road. (Tweet this)
